Welcome to Trails’ Limberlost Northern Campus!

Limberlost Wilderness Reserve, located just outside of Algonquin Park near Huntsville, is a peaceful, year-round wilderness haven with sixteen private lakes and more than 10,000 unspoiled acres of boreal forest.

Limberlost is famous for its varied hiking trails. These trails’ development began more than 50 years ago. In recent years, they have been restored to their previous high standards and, in many cases, significantly upgraded, which has placed them among the best wilderness trails in North America.

In addition to hiking, the following outdoor experiences are available: canoeing, fishing, backwoods skiing, snow shoeing, bird watching, beaver dam viewing, and extensive mixed forests. There are also Solitaire Hidden Caves, Crystal Falls, unique large quartz rock outcrops, winter ice cliffs, and the Echo Rock lookout.

Trails participants have been visiting Limberlost to experience this beautiful, peaceful wilderness retreat since 1996. With the help of Jack Cockwell and family members, and as a working project with Trails youth, a dedicated cabin was built for Trails, and is called Limberlost Northern Campus. The Limberlost experience helps Trails youth expand their practical outdoor skills while, at the same time, building their group skills, their self esteem, and their self confidence.  In addition, Trails participants have also helped to build some of the Limberlost trails. Thirty or more Trails participants visit the site as part of the Trails programme during the summer and over March Break.
